Physical Education Rules & Expectations
Class Expectations
- Students will be given 5 minutes after attendance is taken and five minutes at the end of class to change clothes.
- No gum chewing is allowed in class and no food or drink is to be consumed in the gym or locker room areas.
- All students will remain in the gym until the bell rings to end the period, and they are dismissed.
- Any injuries or emergencies must be reported to the teacher during the class period, so the proper action can be taken.
- No student may ever leave the class, gym or locker room areas without permission from the teacher.
- No one is allowed in the equipment room without permission from the teacher.
- Directions must be followed the first time they are given.
- Abuse, destruction or misuse of physical education equipment will not be tolerated.
- Obscene language, gestures, harassment or disrespect will not be tolerated.
Dress Code
- Students will be expected to follow the district guidelines for the dress code for Phys. Ed. class.
- They must change from their school uniform into the proper gym clothes for class.
- The clothes should be either blue or black in color. This includes their t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatpants, shorts, and/or crew neck sweatshirt.
- All clothes must be appropriate in length.
- They must also wear socks and sneakers for class.
- Students will not be allowed to participate if they are not wearing sneakers. If students do not participate in class, their grade for the day is a zero.
- There is also partial credit for class depending on their preparation, but they must be wearing sneakers for any credit and participation.
- Classes may be held outside in the Fall/Spring: Be prepared daily with a jacket, sweatshirt and/or sweatpants.
- No jewelry should be worn during class, since it can be a safety hazard.
Locker Room/Lockers
- Students will be given a lock and locker. *No sharing lockers*
- It is their responsibility to keep their lock on their locker when they are not using it.
- It is also their responsibility to keep the combination to their lock in a place where they can access it if they forget it. (Teacher will record the combination - do not share it with another student)
- Students will not be allowed back into the locker room once class begins (unless permitted by teacher).
- At the end of the year, students must hand in the lock they were assigned.
- If they lose their lock, there will be a fee they must pay for the lost lock.
- Keep all backpacks, books and other items in the locker room
- Valuable belongings (jewelry, purses, wallets) must be locked in a locker during class. Leaving valuables lying around is only inviting theft. The Physical Education staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.
Medically Excused/Injured- If students become injured or ill and can not participate in class, whether for 1 day or several days, they must have a doctor's note.
- If a student becomes medically excused from class, they will have to complete written assignments for their grade in the class.
- It is the student's responsibility to communicate this with me. After I am informed, I will discuss the written assignment with the student.
- The assignment will be due on Friday for each week they are excused from participating in class.
- If no assignment is turned in, it will result in a grade of a zero.
Cell Phone Usage
- Cell phone use is not allowed in class. (unless permitted by teacher).
- Students should have a place where they can put their phone away once they enter the classroom.
- Please remind your child to refrain from using their cellphone during class time.
- Earbuds are not permitted in classrooms.
- Students may use ONE earbud only during lunch and while passing in the hallways.
Physical Education Grading System
75% Class Participation (Performance)
25% Skills Assessment (Physical Activity Tests)
**Student's grades will be updated every Friday.**
1. Promptness to class
2. Being prepared for class (in proper clothing attire and sneakers)
3. Sitting in the correct squad line on time
4. Participation in the warm-up exercises
5. Participation in physical education activity as instructed by the teacher
