Mrs. Susan Catrone

Susan Catrone graduated Summa cum laude from Kean University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Art Education.

After working years as an elementary classroom teacher at Columbus school, Mrs Catrone transferred to Carteret High School where she currently works as a Visual Arts teacher.  Since her transfer to high school, Susan has been the recipient of the Linda Lora Pugliese Award, twice recognizing her work on Middlesex County Youth Art Month, where she has held the chair for 11 years, and AENJ’s National Art Honor Society Award for her commitment to Carteret High School’s National Art Honor Society.

Most recently, Mrs Catrone was awarded the Governors Award in Visual Arts Education.

Mrs Catrone served as Advocacy and Outreach Chair for Art Educator’s of New Jersey for 8 years before stepping down this year.  Her responsibilities included among other things, curating of NJPAC Student Art Exhibits at the Victoria Theater in Newark. She also served as the liaison for Middlesex County Arts High, and was a member of the Middlesex County Arts Advisory Board.  

For the 2nd year in a row, Mrs. Catrone served as liaison to the Rutgers University HS Portfolio Development Program where students met for 3 months with professors to work on developing a portfolio for college admissions. She is a sponsor for Carteret High School's chapter of National Art Honor Society and an advisor for Junk Kouture, an international competition where students design and construct avant-garde looks from completely recycled and up-cycled materials.  In addition, Mrs Catrone has taken on the role of coadvisor for The Loadspeaker, Carteret's yearbook.

Susan is a working artist.  Her work has been featured in shows across New Jersey and New York.  Mrs Catrone believes that staying active and engaged in her craft transfers positivity in the classroom with students.
