Supporting Potential and Achievement in Remarkable Kids -
Advanced students in grades 2-6 have the opportunity to participate in the S.P.A.R.K. program. Kindergarten and Grade 1 will participate in a 4 week enrichment program. The program’s goal is to challenge students who have met the identification criteria for report card grades, teacher recommendation, NNAT3 scores, district benchmarks and NJSLA scores. S.P.A.R.K. students receive instruction that is differentiated in content, and process, while encouraging creative problem solving.
Here are just some of the units covered across grade levels:
- Second grade students are immersed in the engineering design process through highly effective and engaging Read Alouds that connect to STEAM activities.
- The third grade students work independently researching different destinations around the world, broadening our understanding of many diverse cultures while tapping into their multiple intelligences.
- The fourth grade students have been using investigative problem solving skills as they dive into the world of forensics.
- Fifth grade students are researching and developing an understanding of the invention process while creating their own inventions.
- Sixth grade students dive into the world of entrepreneurship, learning key concepts as they go through the business planning process. Such concepts include an understanding of goods and services, supply and demand, recognizing market trends, creating marketing strategies, and developing effective “pitches” for their own unique business idea at the end of the unit.
In addition to the curriculum requirements, students enhance their studies with board games, logic problems and escape room challenges that create a rigorous, collaborative, and higher order learning environment.
