    FIRST GRADE WELCOME LETTER AND HOUSEKEEPING NOTES

    Welcome to FIRST GRADE at MINUE SCHOOL! I am delighted to have your child in my class and look forward to a successful school year together.
    I am committed to parental involvement in a student’s education.  First Grade involves a great deal amount of time and effort therefore, I am expecting the very BEST from ALL of my students.  In addition, I believe that with teamwork and prepared readiness, we may ALL achieve our goals.  
    If you have any questions or concerns, I would like for you to contact me first either through REMIND APP via email dagliata@cartertschools.org, I do NOT have or use DOJO!
    Unless it is a weekend or a holiday, my Office School Hours are Monday-Friday 7:00- 8:20 am & 3:00-5:00 pm. and I will respond during these hours or at my earliest.

    WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE! To make the first week go smoothly, I would appreciate it if READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION at your earliest convenience!

    1.    IMPORTANT NOTES – Please let me know if your child has allergies or significant health problems.  For now, the air condition will be turned on in the classroom, please put a uniform (navy or white) sweater, cardigan, or sweatshirt in your child’s backpack in case he/she needs one.  If possible, try to put your CHILD’S NAME/INITIALS on their belonging such as jackets, especially when some uniform attire may look identical.

    2.    FOLDERS – Each child will bring home a “Homework Folder” that goes home every night (Monday -Thursday) and is brought back to school Monday-Friday.  Please empty the “Keep Home” daily, only returning important papers and homework on the “Bring Back” side.  In doing so, your child will learn organizational skills and nothing is lost or missed!  PLEASE NOTE:  You must log on to PARENT-PORTAL to fill out important forms at home or BEFORE the First Day of School.  In addition, check the PORTAL to view your child’s progress! 😊

    3.    BACKPACKS – Please write their NAME and FIRST GRADE or “1A” somewhere to identify which class it belongs to.  If your child is a Buser, please have their bus tag securely attached and easily visible.  

    4.    CELL PHONES – It is “School Policy” that cell phones brought to school must be turned “OFF” and securely stored in your child’s backpack for safekeeping.  If a student is caught using their cell phone during school hours by a staff member, he/she and the phone will be immediately sent to the Principal’s Office.    

    5.    SNACK-TIME – We will have approximately 10 minutes for snack and bathroom each day, schedule permitting (morning or afternoon).  Students will be served lunch at 11:11 a.m.  Please send in ONE preferably healthy snack.  Due to the school district’s “Nutrition Policy” CANDIES, HIGHLY SUGARED ITEMS, SODA, or GLASS BOTTLES will NOT be allowed.  Please label your child’s lunch box or bag.  NOTE:  Please check “Lunchables” Some will come with CANDY BARS. Note - We are a PEANUT-FREE school where some snacks may include peanut additives.

    6.    ABSENSES and TRANSPORTATION CHANGE – Please call the Main Office if your child will be absent or if your child will be leaving early (732-541-8960 ext. 3065).  Please add this number to your contacts for easy accessibility! If your child goes to the doctor or is out for Religious Holidays, please send a note to the School Nurse or the Main Office files.  NOTE: If there are any changes in transportation, a handwritten note must be provided in their Homework Folder or please call the Main Office at 732-541-8960 ext. 3065 and leave a message for the school secretary, Mrs. San Fillipo, preferably before Noontime.  

    7.    PHYSICAL EDUCATION/GYM – Children have physical education three times a week and will participate only if he/she wears sneakers on those days.  

    8.    HOMEWORK POLICY – Children will receive homework assignments Monday – Thursday.  TWO POINTS will be DEDUCTED from 100 % each time the assignment is not turned in unless specified with a NOTE why a homework assignment was missed!  My expectation is also that school work is returned nice and neat.  Please have your child return the homework signed and returned each day.  Write me a note if you do not understand any of the assignments.  I will try my BEST not to give homework on Fridays. Let me know if you ever need extra practice work!
                                 a.    WEEKLY READING LOGS:  Will count as a 100 % READING GRADE! =)
          
    9.    MONEY – Anytime that your child brings money to school, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you put it   
                  in a sealed envelope or baggie marked with their name, amount, purpose, and my name “Ms. Agliata” and “Rm. 219” to ensure it arrives in the correct hands. 

    10.    BIRTHDAYS – May be celebrated in the classroom during snack time remain foodless due to food allergies.   However, you may send in “goody” bags to be sent home at the end of the day.
      
    11, LUNCH ENVELOPES – Please write your child’s name on the envelope or plastic baggie and indicate which days you are paying.  Any changes will be credited back to your child’s meal account.  

    12.    ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL – Bus students will be dismissed onto their assigned bus.  Walkers will be let out through the last DOUBLE DOORS (#11) closest to the playground, I WILL BE THERE UNTIL 2:55 PM.  If you are late picking up your child, they will be waiting at the Main Office.
